The objective of this workshop was to find a way to make Chongming island, just of the coast of Shanghai, more attractive to tourists. Sustainability and eco-friendly was the main objective trying to reach our goal. Because the island was quite large, we focussed on a little village called Xianqiao.

Looking at the existing landscape, it was entirely divided by different plots, meaning it’s completely linear. Currently the plots are also divided into even smaller fields, which causes chaos and is not practical for farming in terms of efficiency.
We took this linear element and made it stronger, we did this by giving each plot a specific crop, animal or natural energy to farm. This means that when you travel along, the fields will change the entire time, making it an interesting landscape for tourists and efficient for farmers.
Because the town is split in several areas due to the fields and a lack of roads, we added six new roads connecting each villager to the entire village, by doing this, we made the entire social and economic structure stronger.

Besides creating an interesting project, we had an awesome time in Shanghai. It's one of the most amazing cities i've ever been too. Wouldn't hesitate to work there.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE

To present a proposition for a new living area, on the right bank of the Garone river, providing rules, principles and standards resulting in a desirable plan. A plan that is clear enough to be financially backed by real-estate developers before going into actual design fase. In that fase a designated architects firm will fully develop the results generated by this workshop.

MISSION

To create a habitual site drawing a vast number of people to the right bank
of the Garone river in order to spur a massive social and cultural development
in this specific area, that is originally not very well connected to
the rest of bordeaux.

These amounts of inhabitants can be achieved by offering, to put as simple as possible, the biggest houses for a very agreeable price.

maximum individuality within
optimal standardization

Create a system of pre-fab componants that:

– maximizes the effective volume
– maximizes the individual variety
– whilst minimizing cost units

VISION

A living area for four architypical audiences

- students and alumni
- working singles and couples without children
- families
- wealthy households

Situated around a huge city square we will see, as the density diminishes,
a gradual flow towards the most archetypical situation per area.

The different quarters in the entire Bastide area will each have their own grid to accommodate the wishes of the target audiences. And thus creating the archetypical situation. This will however be of a gradual transition.
Around the centre a more amalgamated situation will develop, where stacked layers of homes will diminish the influence the grid has on appearance.

In the second year of the academy we got the assignment to design and make our own worktable. And so we did. I created a tabel entirely made out of steel. The table is actually three pieces, two legs and a tabletop, the three parts are held together with a dovetail connection (a large one, approx. 30cm width) no screws, no bolts, just a dovetail.

Doc.Shop

This is a youth information point in the north of Rotterdam.
They had a problem with the available space in the shop. It was up to me to come up with something refreshing and logical for all the leaflets, flyers and magazines. Also they needed three showcases for each month has a different theme and they needed to show related item to the theme.

I did the concept, design and the build (yeah!)

Also I made their website

Fotoprofile

Because of websites such as Facebook, Myspace, Hyves, Twitter, there is a lot going on in terms of profile pictures. Users want to communicate how good they look or how cool they are. You see more and more people going to photostudio's to get their pictures taken by a professional photographer and posting them on the world wide web. My client took advantage of this by creating a cheap, easy-to-enter photostudio located in outlet shopping centre Bataviastad, Lelystad, The Netherlands.

He had obtained a very large space for the studio which was actually too large, so I cut it in half by dividing the space in two with extremely large curtains hanging from the construction. Halfway through the process they decided that there was no budget left, which was a pitty because it meant that my plan couldn't be executed properly. But we tried to make the best of it and got the sudio running on time.

In the backyard of my parents house stands a shed which in the early days was used as a place to keep charcoal and horses. Now, approximately a hundred years later, it is used to house my fathers junk which he can't get rid of.. It was in a very pour condition so we decided to give it a new roof. Because it was the summer holidays, I had plenty of time and my father found it convenient to have an interior architect on the spot.. So I helped, my reward was a brandnew MacbookPro. Which was nice.

Binding a 100 A4's brings you the pleasure of having everything together.
Think about all the people in the world who push print too often and at the same time
use a bought sketchbook.

On this project I worked in a team of designers at Doepel Strijkers Architects. My contribution to this project was:

- research
- light construction
- cloth construction

SPRMRKT, based on the Rozengracht in Amsterdam since 2003, is an avant-garde shop with unique labels and a distinctive blend of high design furniture, art books and changing exhibitions. SPRMRKT is unconventional and this philosophy is evident in Super South, the newly realised second store.
On the corner of Cornelis Schuytstraat and Willemsparkweg in Amsterdam South in an existing shell building, a shop is made which plays with the dogmas of the moral perfection of the body and the decoration thereof.

Through spatial configurations, in which mannequins and a textile skin are brought together, human skin, textile skin and clothing merge. Perfection and imperfection of the body are emphasized. Scars and imperfections are a quality together with the visualization of the elasticity of the skin that is a symbolic representation of the human body.
This skin transforms to clothing and refolds to form a second skin. On the one hand a feeling of fusion, on the other an unpleasant fixation. It stimulates the viewer to think critically about perfection and clothing.
Depending on the length of the store the skin transforms where it gradually flattens with perforations in it for the presentation of clothes, shoes and accessories. The skin allows the collection of SPRMRKT to be shown as an exhibition in the front store and a presentation in the back.
Irregularities in the side walls house changing rooms and storage and the remaining space is clear and open.
The floor and ceiling are used for placing the counter, stairs and hanging clothes. By adjusting these elements in size, dimension and colour, a consistent landscape appears upon which clothing and accessories are optimally displayed.
